List of The Best Movies Middle School Students Can Learn From

Middle school is that part when we are all set to step in our teens.

Excited and curious! Adolescence is very complicated phase of life. This is the time when kids’ behavior is molded. Young minds are all set to explore all the things.

Movies can be a great way of teaching kids a lot apart from the academic stuff.

Below is a list of movies with educational outcomes that kids in middle school must watch. Check them out!

1. Evan Almighty

A very funny movie in which Congressman Evan's wish to change the world is heard by God, who asks him to build an ark for an upcoming flood. Soon, wherever he goes, pairs of all types of animals seem to hound a skeptical Evan. Kids will learn to be respectful towards environment.

2. Super Size Me

See what happens when one man lives on only McDonald's food for 30 days. You may be shocked to learn what a fast food diet does to your body.

3. Wall – E

This touching animated film envisions a future that could be where modern culture takes itself without restraint.

4. Food Inc.

The corporate culture that has taken over the food industry has created something far from healthy.

5. 2012

Okay! So this can be a good watch for the mid teens. Watch consequences of being careless towards mother earth.

6. Up

This animated film deals with issues of urban sprawl, ecology, and responsible stewardship in the midst of a touching story about unexpected friendships.

7. Kung Fu Panda

Amazing animated movie. A series of 2 films. Learn to be responsible as the Dragon Warrior, Po. The Furious Five (Po’s friends), residing in the barracks, and he take on the responsibility to battle against the inimical forces in the Valley of Peace.

8. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

A very emotional tale of a dog Hachiko. Kids will definitely love the movie. Make them understand the meaning of loyalty, friendship and caring for animals. 

9. Jurassic Park  

Dinosaurs are brought back to life with dangerous consequences. The incidents in the movie portrays the power of togetherness and friends.

10. March Of Penguins

This film describes a year in the life of an Emperor penguin colony. The special features provide additional information concerning penguins, their environment, and the filming of the movie. Know how you can be caring for animals and learn to respect for the environment

11. Wild Child

A rebellious Malibu princess is sent off to a strict English boarding school by her father. Unwilling to accept the strict regime, she decides to misbehave, in the hope of being dismissed from school. Eventually she turns out to be the best student, adapt to the environment and make everyone proud at the school.

12. Pursuit of Happyness

A great watch starring Will Smith. Learn to never give, be determined and persistent. Have a positive outlook. Be hardworking. This is a must watch for the mid teens.    

13. E.T.

An alien is left behind on Earth and is saved by young Elliot who decides to keep him hidden. While the task force hunts for it, Elliot and his siblings form an emotional bond with their new friend. Question kids on EQ and understand their perspectives.

14. Edward Scissors Hand

Edward, a synthetic man with scissor hands, is taken in by Peg, a kindly Avon lady, after the passing of his inventor. An emotional watch. Will move young kids emotionally.

15. The Muppet Christmas carol

A depiction of the great play Christmas Carol. Scrooge, an old miser who doesn't care about the joyous season of Christmas is visited by spirits who foretell his future. Learn to be kind.   

16. Harry Potter (First Three Movies)

Namely, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and the third part, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Must watch. Let the kids travel in a world of magic. Kids will learn about friendship, being helpful to others and a lot more.    

17. Gandhi

This biography tells the story of the famed leader of India, from his beginnings as a lawyer to his eventual embracing of non-violent protest to his assassination.

18. Finding Nemo

Nemo, a young clownfish, strays from the safety of the Great Barrier Reef and is captured by a diver. Placed in a dentist's aquarium in an office with an ocean view, he finds a group of fish with an escape plan. Meanwhile, Nemo's father searches for his son, meeting a number of ocean creatures along the way. Luck and Disney screenwriting lead to a happy reunion. 

 It also teaches lessons about friendship, obeying parents, and avoiding dangerous situations. 

19. Outbreak

Students will have a clear picture of the path that a virus could take from a host animal to its first human victims and from there to an epidemic that could destroy an entire community. The film clips provide an excellent supplement to a unit on the spread of infectious disease. 

20. Bruce Almighty

A furious TV reporter demands an explanation from God for the injustice done to him. The Almighty gives him the power to run the world for a while, to teach him how difficult it is. Learn to be happy and a great watch to laugh along.

21. Around the Worlds in 80 Days

The year is 1872. A well-to-do English gentleman bets members of his club that he can circumnavigate the world in 80 days. The bet is so large that unless he wins, his entire fortune will be lost. The film, based on a Jules Verne novel, is the suspense filled story of Fogg's attempt to win the bet. The plot turns on the International Date Line and the effects of the rotation of the Earth on time and travel. This is the best film that we have found to teach this subject. 

22. Antz and a Bug’s Life

These animated features contain lessons in the value of nonconformity and friendship.

23. The Perfect Gift  

A wicked girl receives an uplifting message about friendship, commitment and gets to know the real meaning of Christmas from a mysterious drifter. Just like the protagonist, a lot of kids can learn the same values from the movie.

24. Never Cry Wolf

This is a fictional account of a young scientist who spends a year observing a pack of wolves in Alaska. The film is based on the classic novel by Farley Mowat, first published in 1963. The movie will introduce children to the world of wolves and will teach them to be caring for animals, have courage and respect for others.

25. Tucker: The Man and His Dreams

Tucker is determined to create a futuristic car for the masses: the Tucker Torpedo. However, his dreams are challenged by Detroit's auto manufacturers, production problems and accusations of stock fraud, and he is forced to defend his dream and honesty in court. A nice movie for kids. 

26. National Treasure

Benjamin Franklin Gates seeks a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers during the Revolutionary War. He must find it before his competitor does and also avoid getting arrested by the FBI. Be adventurous and learn to stay strong in all the problems. 

27. Jumanji

Two kids come across a magical board game. While playing it, they release Alan, an adult trapped in the game. They encounter various dangers which will come to an end only when the game is completed. With a series of comic event that happen in the movie, it’s a must watch for the class.

28. Zathura

Two young brothers find themselves transported into the depths of space while playing a board game. They try their best to find their way back to Earth. A scientific movie. The film includes scary music, scary sound effects (crashes, explosions, alien-monster growls), and some images of space-aliens and a big robot attacking the boys that might be frightening for younger viewers.

 

29. Shrek

Shrek, an ogre, embarks on a journey with a donkey to rescue Princess Fiona from a vile lord and regain his swamp. The biggest moral of the movie is wrongfulness of judging people by their appearances alone.

30. The Lion King

The Lion King tells the story of Simba, his birth, the murder of his father by his Uncle Scar, Simba's exile, and his return. The film is a Disney animation with excellent music. The Lion King" deals with the death of a parent, betrayal, guilt, running away, denial, ambition, coming of age, redemption, and friendship

 31. The Karate Kid

Dre Parker gets trained in martial arts by his master. He has to fight a bunch of kung fu-trained boys in the annual championship. Dre's hard work and his master's able lessons make him the winner. Get inspired to be hardworking, determined and respecting others.

32. Shark Tale

Oscar, a fast talking fish, pretends to have killed a shark and becomes a hero overnight. However, he soon realizes that his lie may have serious consequences. Learn to be honest and respectful to others.

33. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

A great movie starring  Johnny Depp. Charlie, a young boy from an impoverished family, and four other kids win a tour through an amazing chocolate factory run by an eccentric candy maker, Willy Wonka, and his staff of Oompla Loompas. Lessons to learn are not to envy, love for one another and gratitude is everything.

34. Madagascar

Four animals from the New York Central Zoo, with a spoiled upbringing, escape, unintentionally helped by four fugitive penguins. They find themselves in Madagascar subsequently amidst happy lemurs. A must watch. Great animation and the way these animals are together with each other, the movie will give a good lesson to kids.

35. October Sky

This moving drama based on a true story centers on a very difficult, tense father-son relationship. Ultimately, the movie is about following your dreams, no matter how unachievable they might feel.

36. Journey to The Center of The Earth

In a bid to find out what happened to his brother, a scientist and his nephew embark on a special journey. Along with a mountain guide, they discover a dangerous lost world in the center of the Earth. A good watch for the class full of adventure. 

37. Brave

As the name suggest, the protagonist is brave to follow her dreams and fall out of the norms. Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

38. Life of Pi

Pi Patel finds a way to survive in a lifeboat that is adrift in the middle of nowhere. His fight against the odds is heightened by the company of a hyena and a male Bengal tiger. Learn to respect animals, forgiving others, not giving up, and stories can be a great teacher.

39. Back to The Future

Back to the Future is a story of time travel, moral lessons and a dangerous lunatic who nearly destroys the universe on three separate occasions and nearly kills the underage boy he hangs around with on at least five others.

39. Labyrinth

A selfish 16-year old girl is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King. Helps in understating of value of friendship.

40. Hoot  

A young man moves from Montana to Florida with his family, where he's compelled to engage in a fight to protect a population of endangered owls. Teaches kids to be animal friendly and respect their surroundings. A light watch.
