[Tools for Teachers] Teach Math with These Free iPad Apps

Using new technologies is inevitable today and surely in the future of the education systems. Teachers are finding the use of different classroom technologies like iPads, Tablets, Computers and Laptops to help students learn, easy and effective. 

Students love using these technologies as they help them learn interactively with fun and interest.

Digital videos, video games and interactive apps allow teachers easily engage their students. Students spend most of the time with such technology when they are at home, so, it’s beneficial if we engage them with their favorite media in the classroom too. In this article we provide you with the information about Free iPad Math apps which help you providing your students with fun and interactive learning environment.

Equation Creator:

Equation Creator is an iPad app, suitable for many grade levels. It includes levels ranging from basic single digit addition, to multiplication and division. You need to create the equations for any of the available number or operator tiles to form a right statement. Practice using the 4 basic mathematical operators with several different settings and modes. It provides students with practice of many equations. This app has two game modes; Normal mode has unlimited time and stresses on the use of  as few tiles as possible and in Timed mode, you need to complete the as fast as possible.

Math Cakes - Addition Facts:

Math Cakes - Addition Facts, this app makes practicing math fun and challenging. This app allows you to set different difficulty modes while offering engagement for different grades of children. It was designed to allow students to make tests and practice addition facts on their own. It will also let you know exactly which problems your students missed and which they got correctly. This app is also having an option to email the result of the test to parents or teachers. I’m sure your students love this app.

Drill Math Word Problems - Banana Math:

Banana Math allows you to practice and learn fundamental math facts. The questions contain small stories and beautiful pictures which capture the attention of students. It includes addition , subtraction, multiplication, division , geometry, time problems, along with algebra and randomly generated questions. This app allows you to choose from 3 different levels (Easy, Medium and Hard). Students enjoy learning with Banana Math.

Compatible with: iPad, iPhone (3GS,4, 4S and 5) and iPod touch (3rd, 4th and 5th generations).

Requires: iOS 4.2 or later

 

Butterfly Math Addition:

 

Butterfly Math Addition provides students multiple skills. It has audio guidance that instructs students during the game play. The kids can play with the butterflies and get tactile feedback as the butterflies flutter when they are being dragged. Plus, it is fun to put them in a cage and release them. The idea of numbers could be intriguing to young minds. They can observe that number can be “made” larger (or smaller) by collecting more (or less) butterflies. It  has multiple levels for each of the concepts to ease the learning so that the child grasps the fundamentals. It also rewards kids with colored tiles to encourage him.

Math In A Flash:

Math In A Flash is an app for elementary school children to practice math facts. This app allows you to set names and messages for children working on it . The names and messages show up throughout the app, Example: name as “ Ms. Jeethu, 4th Class” and message as “Best in Additions”. This feature motivates the child automatically. You can also enter their class name too. This app has 4 areas of practice, and they are:

Flashcards: get a problem, answer it and the result is shown instantaneously

Time Me: Pick the number of problems you want to do and hit Go. The app randomly presents problems based on your settings. When done, the app tells you how many you answered right the first time and how long you took to answer.

Fact Families: The app randomly selects a Fact Family based on your settings and presents all problems from the family. For example, if the fact family of addition/subtraction has 3, 4, and 12, the problems presented can be 3 + 4, 4 + 3, 12 - 4, and 12 - 3.

Count By: Pick a number to count by about 0 to 12. The app gives you the first and twelfth number and you need to fill in the rest. You can choose to count forward or backward. For example, if you pick to count forward by 3, the app gives you 3 as the first number, 36 as the twelfth number, and you need to fill in 6, 9, 12, etc. When you are done, the app tells you how many you answered right the first time and how long it took.

Computer Carl:

Computer Carl is a robot. It is feeling very tired because its energy is low. Guide him through a maze to get  to a battery  for a recharge by solving basic addition and subtraction problems.” This is the short description of this app. Children will surely enjoy learning math with this app.
