How Can Educational Data Mining and Learning Analytics Improve and Personalize Education?


As more learning happens online, more data is generated and this data can teach us about learner's behavior which can improve and personalize education .

According to NMC Horizon Higher Education Report 2013 , in the second adoption horizon, two to three years out, we expect to see widespread adoptions of two technologies that are experiencing growing interest within higher education: games and gamification, and the further refinement of learning analytics.

And when we talk of analytics, a must input is data hence educational data mining will be a part of it. Educational Data Mining focuses on developing new tools and algorithms for discovering data patterns and Learning Analytics focuses on applying tools and techniques at larger scales in instrucional systems.
