The U.S. Department of Education states that only 16% of high school seniors are interested in a STEM related career.
Much of this apathy is due to students being unaware of the diverse, influential nature of STEM subjects. It is for this reason that we wanted to share an infographic, which can showcase the way STEM education is revolutionizing biology, health and medicine to inspire more students, educators, and technology professionals to understand the diverse opportunities in the field.
For example, doctors are now able to analyze and treat disease on an individual level thanks to technologies founded in statistics, computer science and biology. The infographic also outlines how bioinformatics can help the 1.6 million people who were diagnosed with cancer in 2014 through genomic sequencing, as well as key innovations like the researchers at Tel Aviv University who built a supercomputer to simulate changes in a protein's three-dimensional structure.
