In line with the surging market trend that demands a skilled workforce in the electronics manufacturing sector, TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, India’s largest privately owned Degree Apprenticeship programme under the TeamLease Services banner, suggests a remarkable 93% increase in the demand for apprentices within the thriving electronics sector. The upsurge in demand marks a significant turning point for India’s electronics industry, establishing it not only as a growth driver but also as a vital catalyst in the search for highly skilled workers.
The electronics manufacturing sector in India is positioned to create an impressive 10 lakh jobs by 2025-2026, signalling a substantial influx of employment opportunities soon. Moreover, the electrical and electronics sector radiates optimism, with 93% of employers envisioning a considerable increase in the apprentice pool during Q4 FY22–23. Within this dynamic industry, two prominent job roles stand out: the Smartphone Assembly Technician, which offers a generous stipend of INR 15,500 per month for graduates, and the Assembly Line Operator, which provides INR 15,100 per month for diploma holders.
With a forecasted market size of $400 billion by 2025, India’s electronics sector is positioned for tremendous expansion. This rapid rise can be ascribed to various factors, including rising consumer demand for electronic items, the government’s ‘Make in India’ policy, and the thriving Indian startup ecosystem. Furthermore, the government’s implementation of the output-linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in India has been a game changer, promoting additional output of US$ 401 billion over the next five years and creating Employment for 60 lakhs. This will spark an extra surge in domestic manufacturing by providing financial incentives to enterprises that invest in and manufacture items in the United States.
Amid India’s impressive growth and global tech giants’ keen interest, job opportunities, especially in the mobile and contract manufacturing sector, are set to soar. As these industry leaders establish themselves, the demand for skilled professionals intensifies. With the electronic manufacturing sector experiencing remarkable expansion, apprenticeships emerge as a vital solution to bridge the skill gap. These programs provide a structured path for individuals to acquire hands-on expertise, equipping them with the skills required for success. In this dynamic landscape, apprenticeships are integral to nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals, aligning perfectly with industry demands. The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme further fuels this demand, empowering qualified professionals to meet the sector’s evolving requirements.
To bridge this skills gap, apprenticeships have emerged as a vital component, actively contributing to developing a robust talent pipeline for the most sought-after positions in the electronics sector. Apprenticeship programmes are meticulously crafted initiatives that give individuals a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and technical expertise. Importantly, apprentices in the electronics sector are reaping the benefits of premium stipend payouts, which are nearly 50% higher than the national average for graduates, ITI, and candidates with 8th, 10th, and 12th qualifications. These higher stipends, set at INR 15,000, significantly surpass the national average of INR 10,000. As the electronics sector flourishes, job opportunities are mainly thriving in emerging cities across India, including the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, the western states of Maharashtra (with a particular focus on Aurangabad and Pune), and the northern states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.
Highlighting the critical findings, Sumit Kumar, Chief Business Officer at TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, stated:
The growth forecast for India’s electronics sector isn’t just a statistic; it’s a glimpse into a promising future. With the industry set to create 10 lakh jobs by 2025-26, it’s a transformative shift. Premium stipends, almost 50% above the national average, aren’t just numbers; they’re real opportunities for graduates and diploma holders, with smartphone assembly technicians and assembly line operators earning INR 15,500 and INR 15,100 per month, respectively. The demand is fueled by the dynamic electronics market, which is expected to reach $400 billion by 2025. But as opportunities grow, so does the need for skilled workers. That’s where apprenticeships emerge, transforming individuals into experienced professionals and aligning perfectly with the sector’s requirements.
As the electronics sector thrives, apprenticeships play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals, fostering their Employability, and meeting the industry’s ever-growing demands.
