The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has collaborated with Bhashini to translate skill training content into vernacular languages, the Chief Executive Officer of NSDC, Ved Mani Tiwari, announced on LinkedIn. Both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Tiwari and Amitabh Nag, Chief Executive Officer of Bhashini.
The NSDC’s partnership with Bhashini will focus on providing online video translation services and converting existing videos into many languages, ensuring broader access to educational resources in diverse languages.
Speaking about the initiative, Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC, said:
By improving access to skill courses in one’s language will be used for Skill India Digital, where content in multiple languages will be available.
Bhashini is an initiative launched by the Indian Government to use artificial intelligence to break the country’s linguistic barrier. The program developed tools for translating content from popular languages such as English to various Indic languages. Last year, while speaking to the audience at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech was translated to Tamil in real-time using AI tools developed by Bhashini.
NSDC aims to catalyze the creation of a large and quality vocational training ecosystem in India. Since its inception, the organization has trained over three crore people in different sectors by collaborating with training partners across India. It has established 37 Sector Skill Councils (SSCs). It implements the Government’s flagship skill development schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). NSDC also funds enterprises, companies and organizations that provide skill training. The company enables private-sector capacity building in skill development by offering concessional loans, other innovative financial products, and strategic partnerships.
