EDGE Tutor International, Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing online tutoring outsourcing company, has closed a $1 million pre-Series A fundraising round, building on its $800,000 seed round in 2023. The investment was led by Seaborne Capital and M Venture Partners, with participation from Kaya Founders, Orvel Ventures, IdeaSpace, Lorinet Foundation, and prominent angel investors.
With this fresh funding, the company plans to expand operations into North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, reinforcing its aim of providing Filipino educators with worldwide career opportunities.
EDGE Tutor was founded by Harvard alumnus Henry Motte de la Motte. With offices in New York, London, Singapore, and Manila, the company has established itself as a pioneer in online tutoring outsourcing, bridging the gap between high-quality Filipino educators and tutoring companies globally. The platform offers trained tutors and end-to-end management in a B2B format, allowing global education businesses to conduct live instruction at scale under their brand. The service is fully managed and white-labeled. Its stringent selection procedure admits only 3% of the thousands of licensed teachers who apply monthly, guaranteeing that only the best educators are linked with global education organizations.
Speaking about the company, Henry Motte de la Motte, CEO & Founder of EDGE Tutor, said:
There’s nothing artificial about the passion and dedication of our 1,000+ tutors. We see daily how they connect with students and make learning come alive. Our 50 clients across 30 countries are experiencing firsthand that live instruction isn’t just valuable—it’s in demand. AI makes for a great co-pilot and a powerful supplement between live sessions, but we (along with our clients and their learners) find that nothing replaces the power of human connection.
While artificial intelligence is revolutionizing education, EDGE Tutor is a contrarian bet on what learners ultimately prefer: affordable, human-centred learning experiences. Since its introduction in 2023, EDGE Tutor has given 800,000 courses and is on track to achieve 1 million by early 2025. The platform has also received a 4.96/5 student satisfaction score and increased tutors’ disposable revenue by 2-3 times.
Jay Haendler of Seaborne Capital added:
We have been an active part of the high-growth BPO industry in the Philippines for the last 15 years and are convinced that the education and tutoring vertical is ready to leverage outsourcing to enhance learner outcomes, improve support for onshore teachers, and ensure tutoring becomes increasingly affordable.
The new investment will help EDGE Tutor expand into the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. Revenue has increased from 5% in 2022 to 30% in 2024 and is expected to reach 50% by 2026. The company aims to increase tutor capacity from 1,000 to 4,000 by 2026 and invest in AI-based automation for teacher training, quality control, curriculum development, and lesson delivery.
Commenting on the funding, Cecilia Calvo Lewis, COO of EDGE Tutor, said:
Every learner deserves a great teacher, and some of the best are right here in the Philippines. This investment allows us to expand global access to our world-class Filipino tutors while providing them with training, technology, and coaching to excel in online teaching.
As EDGE Tutor expands, it seeks partnerships with organizations and institutions dedicated to empowering educators, advancing global education, and actively attracting partners around the world.
