To boost accountability and streamline attendance management in schools, the Government of Assam’s Department of School Education has recently issued a notification mandating the monitoring of daily attendance for teachers and students through the Shiksha Setu app. This order will be enacted on April 1, 2024, to ensure accurate and transparent attendance records across the state’s educational institutions.
Dr Om Prakash (IAS), Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha in Assam, informed about this decision via an official communication addressed to key stakeholders, including Additional District Commissioners (Education), Inspectors of Schools, District Elementary Education Officers, and District Mission Coordinators across all districts of the state. In the communication, Dr Prakash emphasized the significance of smoothly transitioning to the new attendance tracking system.
Stakeholders were asked to download the Shiksha Setu app and report any technological challenges encountered while tracking daily attendance by March 23, 2024. This proactive approach aims to address possible problems and facilitate the smooth implementation of the specified process.
This significant move highlights the government’s iron-clad commitment to using technology to upgrade educational governance and enhance transparency in tracking teacher and student attendance. By harnessing the features provided by the Shiksha Setu app, authorities seek to optimize resource allocation, encourage punctuality, and ultimately raise the standard of education delivery throughout the state.
Meanwhile, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced last year that the Shiksha Setu App will have an offline functionality, allowing users to access it without an internet connection. To retrieve the location, the Shiksha Setu app will use Android’s built-in Google location services library. Once the area is known, a school’s head teacher or principal can record the offline date, time, and location while taking a photo. Once internet service is available, the information can be uploaded.
Furthermore, the group attendance feature has been simplified; if teachers select the group icon, it will open the multiple attendance screen. If they want to take attendance in portrait mode, they just need to tap the mobile icon on the screen.
