D2L, a global learning technology company, has recently introduced a free K-12 Cybersecurity course in collaboration with Sinclair Community College to help meet the commitments announced at the White House’s Cybersecurity Summit for K-12 Schools. The course focuses on D2L’s previous progress toward these commitments, its long history of industry-leading practices and its educational mission.
The free cybersecurity course aims to address the specific needs of K-12 school system leaders in recognizing and responding to emerging cybersecurity threats. This self-paced D2L Open Course, created with interactive elements using D2L’s Creator+ course authoring tool, can provide K-12 administrators with essential knowledge about the most common school threats and mitigation practices and actionable information that can help them improve their system’s cybersecurity resilience.
Speaking about the development, Kyle Jones, Information Technology Chair at Sinclair Community College, said:
Both D2L and Sinclair Community College attended the White House Cybersecurity Summit for K-12 Schools in August and are thrilled to partner on this free cybersecurity course. Our mission is to find the need and endeavour to meet it. This partnership with D2L allows us to empower our local K-12 administrators with the knowledge and skills they need to protect their students, staff, and data from cyber threats.
Sinclair Community College has been a D2L Brightspace customer since 2012. It is a leader in undergraduate education, with over 20 degrees, certificates, and programmes in information technology and cyber security. The College has been recognized by the United States Department of Homeland Security for its Sinclair Center for Cyber Security and related programs, and it received National Science Foundation funds to support cybersecurity education.
Stephen Laster, President of D2L, added:
Over the past decade, D2L has been a leader in helping educators successfully navigate the ever-changing landscape of digital learning. This has required us to be vigilant and adaptable to help keep learning safe and secure. One of the most important aspects of addressing cybersecurity issues is a willingness to learn, and I believe today’s free cybersecurity course can help us all stay agile in the face of evolving threats.
D2L is pioneering the era of personalized learning. It is founded on the belief that all students, regardless of age, ability, or region, should have access to a high-quality education. The company collaborates with significant individuals, decision-makers, and business innovators worldwide to foster learning.
