Duolingo, the world’s most prominent language learning platform, has introduced an innovative intermediate English course to help English language learners everywhere, including in India. The newly launched intermediate English course on Duolingo strives to help students achieve their goals in their personal and professional lives by enhancing their English language proficiency by addressing these numerous motivations.
English, as a vital global language, plays a significant role in connecting people across different regions and opening doors to global opportunities. The recent Duolingo Language Report (DLR) revealed that English is the most popular language on Duolingo in 122 countries, including India. The high number of daily lessons completed by English learners in India, ranking them at #1, underscores the substantial demand and the crucial role of English proficiency in the country.
Speaking about the development, Karandeep Singh Kapany, Regional Marketing Director at Duolingo, stated:
English proficiency is an asset that can unlock numerous opportunities not just in India but globally. The Intermediate English course will be instrumental in helping our users get closer to their language learning aspirations and realize their professional or academic ambitions. We aim to support their educational and professional journeys by providing the tools they need to excel in a globalized world.
For Indian learners on Duolingo, English proficiency is a key goal for a variety of reasons. The majority, 40%, use the platform primarily for educational purposes. Others seek to connect with people, prepare for travel, or use their time more effectively. It’s also noteworthy that 78% of Duolingo learners in India are under 30, many of whom are eager to further their studies or advance their careers.
Duolingo allows anyone to learn to read, listen, and speak in most of the world’s prominent languages through games and bite-sized lessons. The platform also supports many niche vernaculars and fictional tongues, such as Klingon.
