Education research and technology company EAB has launched Education Data Hub, a data management platform for higher education, to make education smarter, the company announced the news recently.
Education Data Hub is higher education’s first data management platform, providing integration, governance, and analytics solutions in one technology. The platform, using a hub-and-spoke approach that incorporates internal and third-party data sources, organizes data into a single, unified source of information, significantly helping reduce the burden of institutions in managing the data.
EAB is committed to make education smarter through technology. The company harnesses the collective power of more than 1,500 schools, colleges, and universities to uncover and apply proven practices and transformative insights. From kindergarten to college and beyond, the company partners with education leaders, practitioners, and staff to accelerate progress and drive results across three key areas: enrolment management, student success, and institutional operations and strategy.
New EAB report identifies need for colleges to centralize access to data siloed in disparate campus IT systems.
EAB research shows that as colleges/institutions broaden their use of technology, data, and analytics, most find themselves managing an ever-expanding patchwork of IT systems and data repositories. It also highlighted that the technology proliferation also places an enormous burden on IT staff and has made it difficult for institutions to provide adequate integrations, data governance, and data accessibility to support the needs of the IT office and other university stakeholders.
Now that EAB has created a single data management platform, the aforementioned problems and other data management-related issues faced by educational institutions across the world will be a thing of the past.
EAB’s Education Data Hub provides a complete view of a student, faculty, or unit on campus by retrieving existing data across disparate systems and organizing it into a single system-agnostic and vendor-agnostic data model. The organized data can then be exported into other applications or accessed directly within the platform by authorized users. Education Data Hub is a configurable and open platform that will grow with institutions as their needs evolve.
Explaining the newly launched data management platform for higher education, EAB Executive Vice President Scott Schirmeier said,
“EAB’s Education Data Hub plays the role of integration platform, data warehouse, and university data model in a single application. Our platform reduces the burden on institutional research and technology teams, while democratizing access to pockets of information trapped in siloed data sources.”
Narrating how EAB’s Education Data Hub has helped in the operations of the university, John Carroll University Chief Information Officer Jim Burke said,
“By incorporating EAB’s Education Data Hub into our operations, we have created a one-stop shop for our data within an effective technology framework that meets the needs of different stakeholder groups across our university.”
Besides Education Data Hub, EAB also announced publication of a new white paper – Activating the Analytics Mandate – that examines the challenges posed by the growth and complexity of technology systems on educational institutions. The paper also suggests better ways for institutions to govern and optimize their use of data by leveraging a data management platform.
