Education Perfect, a New Zealand-based digital learning platform providing user-friendly study tools for teachers and students, has recently acquired Essential Assessment, a bootstrapped Victorian EdTech assessment platform, for around $40 million. However, the financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Education Perfect is used by over a million students and 50,000 teachers across 3,000 schools globally, including 2000 Australian primary schools. The company aims to build efficacy in independent learners through a personalised online platform. The EdTech scaleup has over 200 staff in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Dubai and Toronto. It’s a digital teaching, learning and Assessment toolkit for teachers that aids student engagement in online education and collects and analyses student feedback. The platform is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive culture that supports, encourages and values all EPeeps and their unique backgrounds. The company was bought out by private equity giant KKR in 2021 for over $400 million.
With this acquisition, Education Perfect hopes to build out its primary school market to reach 4,000 schools and more than a million students across Australia, making it the region’s largest EdTech platform. Essential Assessment will allow the business to bolster its position as the preferred platform for data analytics, content, and assessment capabilities for educators.
Andrew Spitty, who left high school teaching in northern Victorian in 2015 to run EA full time as CEO, is the sole owner of the business, which employs more than 20 people, including his brother, who provided the developer grunt for the platform as CTO. They will both join Education Perfect, along with the rest of the team, under the deal.
Speaking about the acquisition, Chief Executive Officer of Essential Assessment Andrew Spitty said:
We’ve always been dedicated to assisting primary and secondary schools in their objective to provide high-quality education, and now we have the chance to do so on a larger scale. With our assessment capabilities combined with Education Perfect’s data analytics and content, we can offer a more effective tool for schools to support their students.
Essential Assessment offers assessments for schools, both online and printed, for kindergarten to year ten students, based on the NSW, Victorian and Australian curriculums. It’s used by more than 2500 primary and secondary schools.
Chair of Education Perfect’s board, Helen Souness, added:
The company was now “leading the way” in education technology. By combining our data analytics and content with Essential Assessment’s assessment capabilities, we are delivering a powerful mix that provides unparalleled perspective to schools to help improve performance and student impact.
