The Indian Institute of Delhi (IITD) has launched a first-of-its-kind Certificate Programme in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) Design. This high-impact 6-month programme is specifically designed for engineers from mechanical, electrical, automotive, and allied areas seeking to establish a strong foundation in EV/HEV technology. It is also tailored for professionals transitioning from traditional internal combustion engine technology to EVs and HEVs.
The programme also caters to professionals aiming to fortify their expertise in the EV/HEV sector. It gives them the advanced knowledge and skills to design and develop innovative, sustainable, and efficient hybrid electric vehicles that meet the industry’s evolving needs.
The IITD Certificate Programme in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) Design rightly integrates key concepts spanning thermodynamics, IC engines, electric machines and drives, power electronics, automotive hybridization, and battery design and modelling, providing participants with a comprehensive outlook to drive innovation.
The course’s design includes live sessions delivered and designed by renowned IITD faculty in line with the FAME scheme, industry-oriented insights, a Capstone project guided by the top IITD faculty and an opportunity for networking in the automotive industry. It also includes an optional 1-day campus immersion at the IIT Delhi campus towards the end of the programme, which provides exposure to the Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) facilities. The modules of this programme include:
- The complexity of technology integration.
- Energy storage systems.
- Design, operation, & modelling of batteries.
- Automotive hybridization and electrification (AHE), among others.
Through this programme, participants will be able to:
- Explain the operating characteristics of an internal combustion engine (ICE).
- Explain the process of vehicle hybridization and electrification.
- Explain various electric machines and propulsion technologies used in HEVs
- Explain the working principles of different types of energy storage systems
- Explain testing and modelling methods to characterize battery performance, reliability, and safety
The programme’s eligibility includes Engineering graduates (Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, and allied areas) or Diploma holders (10+2+3) from a recognized university. It is set to begin on September 29, 2024, with a fee of INR 1,10,000 plus GST.
Upon successful programme completion with a minimum grading of 50% and maintaining a minimum attendance of 50%, participants will be awarded a prestigious certificate of completion from CEP, IIT Delhi.
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is one of India’s first five IITs, developed for training, research, and development in science, engineering, and technology. Since its inception, over 48,000 students have graduated from the institute in various disciplines, including Engineering, Physical Sciences, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences.
