Zenius, a Jakarta-based education technology company, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from MDI Ventures, the VC arm of Telkom Indonesia.
The round also witnessed participation from Northstar Group, Alpha JWC Ventures, Openspace Ventures, and Beacon Venture Capital.
With the latest round of funding, the startup plans to improve its personalized learning experience. It also wants to leverage the connection of investor MDI Ventures to establish more partnerships and service distributions across the country.
Founded in 2004 by Sabda PS and Medy Suharta, Zenius is one of the pioneers of online tutoring services in Indonesia. The platform provides learning material for K-12 students in Indonesia. The startup debuted with offline tutoring and packaged material on CD and DVD before becoming a fully online service. Zenius currently has several products with the best-selling being its online tutoring service.

Throughout the 2019/20 school year, the firm claimed, its tutoring application was accessed by more than 20 million users. It contains around 100,000 learning videos and practice questions that are accessible for free. Additionally, Zenius also offers Live class services for direct guidance with selected teachers. There is also a written national exam simulation besides several other learning products.
Last month, Zenius acquired local offline tutoring giant Primagama for an undisclosed amount. The startup has also partnered with Disney to create primary school learning content and launched a learning platform for professionals called ZenPro.
Earlier in 2021, Zenius raised an undisclosed amount in its Pre-Series B funding round from a number of investors, including Alpha JWC Ventures, Openspace Ventures, Northstar, Kinesys, and BeeNext. Prior to that, it had raised $20 million in its Series A round led by Northstar Group in January 2020. The startup’s latest funding brings its total raised to $40 million.
