In a pioneering move to nurture innovation and talent in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO has introduced free courses in AI and ML. These unique courses not only provide access to top-notch education but also offer a free certificate upon completion, a rare opportunity to jumpstart a career in these cutting-edge fields.
The five-day short-term courses will begin on August 9 and run until August 23, 2024. The courses are specifically designed for professionals who aim to become familiar with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL) and apply these technologies to geospatial applications. It also benefits students and researchers in civil engineering, computer science, data analytics, geo informatics, and geomatics. Notably, there is no course cost; nevertheless, seating is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, which ensures that participants secure a programme promptly.
Course study materials, such as lecture slides, video recordings of lectures, open-source software, and demonstration handouts, will be available through IIRS-ISRO’s e-class platform. Video lectures will also be uploaded to e-class.
Participants can easily register for this ISRO course and track their application status through an online link. For individual registrations, approval is automatic, and participants will receive login credentials for ISRO LMS without any delay. Participants can also register through nodal centres, with approval from the coordinator of the nodal centre. If the application is pending approval, participants should contact their respective nodal centre coordinator for further assistance.
Upon completing the program with a minimum attendance of 70%, students will receive a ‘Course Participation Certificate’.
ISRO’s initiative offers a valuable opportunity for professionals and students to enhance their expertise in cutting-edge technologies, contributing to the advancement of India’s space sector.
ISRO’s online course is part of the IIRS Outreach Programme, which has expanded since its inception in 2007. The initiative began with only 12 universities and institutions and has expanded to include over 3,500 network institutes. This extensive outreach benefits diverse participants, including central and state universities, private academic institutions, government departments, forest resource professionals, state forest departments, research institutes, geospatial industries, and non-governmental organizations.
