mSwali, a Kenyan mobile-based learning startup, has raised an undisclosed amount in a pre-seed funding round to expand its flagship product mSwali Quiz from the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) app to a web app.
Founded in 2020, mSwali is a mobile-based learning games developer with origins in building learning games for the African market. The company’s flagship product, mSwali Quiz, is a USSD and app-based Quiz game and it enables players to learn a lot about the African countries and the continent as a whole.
mSwali is on a mission to promote the desire and curiosity to know more within the African adult population. The company does this by developing and promoting mobile-based learning games that are fun, rewarding, and easily accessible. mSwali firmly believes that knowledge is power and its learning games enhance knowledge to the players and their overall well-being.
Speaking about the company, Patrick Mungai, Co-founder & CEO of mSwali, said,
“mSwali is a platform that aims to promote the desire & curiosity to know more within the African adult population, using mobile-based learning games that are fun, rewarding & easily accessible. We believe knowledge is power & it enhances people’s overall well-being. There are very few mobile-based learning games focused on the African adult population, but we instead have a proliferation of hundreds of betting & gambling platforms across the continent. mSwali aims to counter this by enhancing learning among the adult population through the educational games available on the platform.”
The pre-seed funding will enable mSwali to develop a web app as it expands to South Africa. Currently, mSwali Quiz is available in Kenya.
mSwali, whose meaning is broken down as m for mobile and Swali for question in Swahili, has its ethos and culture as curiosity and eagerness to learn more by asking questions.
