KLAY (Kids Learning And You) Prep Schools and Day Care has announced the launch of the KLAY Pre-School Teacher Training Program for early educators.
The program has been launched in response to overwhelming demand from teaching aspirants and parents for a world-class certificate program in early years teacher training that would prepare candidates for a career in this field. Ever since its inception, KLAY has already trained over 1700 of preschool teachers, administrators and caregivers who are the engine behind this pan-India prep school and day care network of over 150 centres.
As per industry estimates, about 20% of preschool teachers in India have no formal training in early childhood care and development. Moreover, there are no specific guidelines for mandatory training or lessons that teacher training institutes must provide to their candidates.
Meghna Yadav, Head Training And Development, KLAY said, “85% of a person’s brain development happens before the age of 6 years. Therefore, the quality of interaction and engagement a child gets in the early years is very crucial in their overall development and growth. Through the launch of this teacher training program, we plan to address the education gap by building a strong foundation for teachers and in turn our future generations.
“Our training programs have two major components – facilitating skill development and enabling a career shift. For teachers in India, the second component is more applicable as an increasing number of women are interested in finding ways to either come back to workforce post maternity or opting to teach in order to maintain a work-life balance. Hence, this is a motivating factor to invest in training programs,” she further added.
Priya Krishnan, founder & CEO, KLAY said, “Our initiative of launching this program in India, specifically for pre-school teachers is an effort to contribute to the Government’s latest draft National Education Policy that emphasizes on quality education for kids in primary school. The success of this draft purely lies in the implementation of suggested measures. The multi-disciplinary approach to enhance the quality of education in India is the way to go, provided it is implemented through skilled and qualified teachers. Furthermore, a well-planned curriculum is wasted if not implemented through trained hands. Hence, training teachers with requisite skills and knowledge is going to be a major deciding factor for the accomplishment of the National Education Policy in the coming years.”
Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister for Human Resource Development recently pointed out that the teacher education curriculum in our county has been the same for nearly 40 years and needs to be revised from time to time. In this context Priya mentioned, “With the launch of this training program for teachers we aim to partner with the Government to improve the quality of education and tackle current challenges in the education sector.”
Some key features of the Program include:
– The curriculum is based on the latest international research in early childhood education and development, and has been designed by leading child development psychologists
– The certification is a 6 months programme which requires participants to devote approximately 10 hours per week (6 hours of classes + 4 hours of assignments)
– The course includes a mandatory 4 weeks internship with KLAY schools
– 100% placement guarantee on successful completion of the certification
The first phase has been launched in Mumbai, Bangalore and NCR and around 64 candidates have enrolled so far. The second phase of the launch will include launch of multiple centers within 3 cities in the months of August and September 2019.
