Scaler Academy, an up-skilling platform for tech professionals and college students, has acquired the online learning platform Coding Minutes for $1 million in an all-cash deal.
With the latest acquisition, Bengaluru-based startup Scaler aims to focus on building specialised content targeted at the beginner-level tech aspirant. To date, the edtech platform has focused on upskilling existing tech talent.
The acquisition also allows Scaler to tailor content towards students and professionals who want to enter the tech industry and have no background in coding or programming. Additionally, it is also expected to bolster Scaler’s instructor and engineering teams.
As a part of the deal, Coding Minutes will become a part of Scaler and will continue to bring pocket-friendly specialised courses for beginners.
Coding Minutes hopes to strengthen its hiring pipeline because a lot of students on the platform who come from Tier 3 cities do not get many employment opportunities.
Started in early 2021 by Prateek Narang, Mohit Uniyal and Jatin Virmani, Coding Minutes provides top-notch learning content and on in-demand programming, skills covering programming languages, data structures and algorithms, machine learning and full-stack web development. The platform also offers courses that are highly practical including video lectures, coding challenges, project files and refreshing learning experiences. The startup is on a mission to provide affordable and high-quality coding education for everyone.
According to a statement, Coding minutes has enrolled more than 20,000 learners from 120 countries across varied courses.
Talking about the platform, the Co-founder of Coding Minutes, Prateek Narang, said, “Over the last few years, Scaler has truly disrupted the tech education landscape in the country. They have built a solid outcome-focused learning platform….Together we can accelerate the pace at which Indian engineers and techies contribute to the larger global technology ecosystem.”
Coding minutes has more than 50,000 beginner coders and has amassed 6 million minutes of watch time across their courses. The e-learning platform is projected to hit an ARR of INR 1 Crore in the current financial year.
Co-founded by IIT Hyderabad alums Anshuman Singh and Abhimanyu Saxena in 2019, Scaler Academy is focused on college students and tech professionals. The platform also provides mentorship to help pupils crack recruitment processes as well as provides referrals for software opportunities.
Speaking about the acquisition, the Co-founder of Scaler Academy, Abhimanyu Saxena, said “We are very excited about this acquisition as the Coding Minutes team is fantastic. They are a great combination of outstanding engineering minds with a sincere passion for teaching and giving back to the community. It is truly a 1+1>2 kind of partnership where the impact we can create together for the technology ecosystem in the country is tremendous and something neither of us could have achieved without each other.”
In August this year, Scaler had acquired Coding Elements to accelerate business growth. To expand its offerings, the company recently introduced a Data Science and Machine Learning programme and a unique subscription-based lifelong career accelerator.
Currently, Scaler has over 650 employees and more than 1000 mentors or teaching assistants on its platform. So far more than 8,500 learners have joined Scaler’s educational programmes.
As a testament to its growth, Scaler Academy has raised $20 million in Series A funding led by investors like Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global and Rocket Internet, among others, in January 2020.
