Pearl, a Richmond education technology startup that offers a tutor management software platform, has closed a seed round of more than $4 million.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission filings, in total, the company has raised $4.75 million in equity funding from 54 investors.
Founded by John Failla, Pearl (formerly known as Trilogy Mentors), provides a proprietary software-as-a-service platform for educators to launch and scale a branded, relationship-based online learning program. It gives individual tutors and tutoring agencies the tools they need to succeed – all in one elegant, easy-to-use platform. The company is on a mission to build the best tools so that tutors can improve more student outcomes.
Pearl is built by tutors for tutors, it is constantly perfecting the product to better service tutors and their students. The startup focuses on the student and parent experience to make sure that each end-user has a clear understanding of how the solution works.
The company originally launched as an in-person tutoring program and went through Richmond’s Lighthouse Labs accelerator before transitioning to a technology company. The Pearl platform includes live online chat support meaning that access to real (human) help is only one click away.
Last year, Co-founder & CEO of Pearl, John Failla said:
“We licensed out our all-in-one hybrid tutoring platform to companies, institutions and freelancers so they can launch programs overnight.”
According to Failla, the company has a number of partnerships it plans to unveil over the next few weeks.
