Internshala’s skilling engine, Internshala Trainings, recently published a thought-provoking report highlighting a substantial surge of 101% in female enrollment in online certification courses over the last five years. The report thoroughly examines the changing landscape of female engagement in skill development initiatives, emphasizing the eagerness and determination of women across India to learn new skills in the rapidly evolving digital age. Women accounted for 42.6% of all skill training enrollments the previous year.
The study highlights a wide range of skill opportunities for women. Web Development, Digital Marketing, and Advanced Excel are the most popular courses, accounting for 14%, 11%, and 7% of enrollments in the previous year, respectively. Furthermore, courses such as Programming with Python, General Aptitude, Financial Modeling and Valuation, Data Science, Human Resource Management, Machine Learning, and UI/UX Design are popular among female students, demonstrating various skill sets.

While 52% aim to enhance their employability prospects by seeking internships or job opportunities, 32% are fueled by a desire to acquire new skills and stay abreast of industry advancements. Moreover, 9% enroll in courses to obtain certification to validate their abilities and competencies in the competitive job market.
Significant Geographical Distribution of Women Participants
According to the findings, there is a substantial geographical distribution of female participation. Tier-1 cities with the highest enrollment rates include Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai. However, a notable trend emerges: 59% of women participating in skill training come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, emphasizing the accessibility to skilling opportunities provided by online learning in urban and rural landscapes.
Women’s Unwavering Commitment to Personal and Professional Development
Notably, the research demonstrates a surge in women’s enrollment throughout the summer months of May, June, and July. This trend represents a proactive utilization of leisure time for self-improvement and skill enhancement, highlighting women’s steadfast commitment to personal and professional growth. In addition, the completion rate of online training among women was 50.4%, with an average of 43 minutes spent on e-learning per day.
