The Core of Education is proud to present, in cooperation with American Ed TV and RFD TV, the Rural Educational Special.
Tonight (10 p.m. on RFD TV) our month-long expose examines the successes and challenges of rural school districts in America, and the teachers & administrators focused on improvement. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan joined us at the Rural Education Forum this week in Columbus, Ohio. We discussed his tenure as Secretary and ways to engage rural communities and schools.
Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, lent her and the AFT’s voice in rural education issues and she responded to TIME magazine’s cover article that casts U.S. education as ‘Rotten Apples.’ Weingarten also talks about the Union brand and how they are actually growing membership contrary to popular belief. Over 50 million adults and over 12 million children live in rural areas around the country and their education needs are unique and of paramount importance to everyone as you’ll see from in-depth profiles covering the likes of Duncan and Weingarten and also rural students and teachers who continue to define rural education in new and exciting ways.
